There’s no shortage of black and orange in this week’s email, and it’s not just me updating the newsletter design to match my Partiful invites.

Halloween has officially taken over Camberville. Many events happening around town are costume-friendly if not costume-encouraged, which means you never know which villain or creature you may see riding home on the T.

Speaking of Partiful, I’ve scheduled more New to Camberville events. You’ll find them below this week’s picks.

If you only do one thing 🏆

FOUND Vintage Market & Scavenger Hunt. Check out over 100 vendors, a live DJ, delicious food, and a beer garden at this mega market that fills an entire city block. Participate in the scavenger hunt while you shop for a chance at a $200 prize. Saturday afternoon offers multiple market options, but if you’re looking for the largest event in Camberville this weekend, there’s a good chance this will be it.

Saturday, October 24⬩ 12-5 PM⬩Cambridge Crossing, 222 Jacobs St, Cambridge⬩Free

The week's picks

🤝 Actually meet people

Camberville Zombie Pub Crawl. For the seventh year, zombies rise from the dead and wander the streets of Cambridge and Somerville in search of brains, booze, and a groanfully good time. The first stop of the night is family-friendly, and the last stop is a zombie dance party with DJ L'DUKE.

Saturday, October 24⬩5 PM-2 AM⬩Starts at Portico Brewing, Cambridge St

🎶 Out at night

LDB x BFAC Queer Figure Drawing, Halloween Edition. Costumes are highly encouraged at this event co-hosted by two of Somerville’s most popular creative communities. Queer figure drawing, spooky drag performances, and a haunted vendors market will leave you feeling delightfully bewitched.

Friday, October 23⬩7-10 PM⬩The Loov, 72 Joy St, Somerville⬩$20

Steep’d: Intergenerational Night. The Ludo invites you to unwind after a long week with a different, magical approach to nightlife that features carefully-curated immersive art and music, decenters alcohol, and offers a space that will leave you feeling nourished rather than depleted. I had such a great time attending Steep’d on my own last winter, I organized a group of my friends to go back together a few weeks later.

Saturday, October 24⬩7-10 PM⬩First Street Market, 59 First Street, Cambridge⬩Free, RSVP required

🌳 Daylight hours

Fall Salvage Sale and Makers’ Market. Buy from a secondhand store where all proceeds go to a good cause. Support one of the dozen local artisans showcasing their handmade arts and crafts. One place, two feel-good opportunities to shop and show up for the community.

Saturday, October 24⬩12-5 PM⬩Somerville Community Growing Center, 22 Vinal Ave, Somerville⬩Free

Cambridge Record Fair. Take yourself out for a spin at Recordville’s latest record fair, now hosted in Kendall Square. Find the next addition to your collection from one of the 55 local and regional vendors, or just stop by for the tunes as DJs spin records all day long.

Saturday, October 24⬩10 AM-5 PM⬩The Dante Alighieri Society, 41 Hampshire St, Cambridge⬩$5

🧠 Smart stuff

Halloween (1978), Elements of Cinema. The Brattle Theatre welcomes a modern scholar to discuss an old slasher with its first-come, first-serve showing of the popular film that introduced us to the deranged, escaped Michael Myers.

Monday, October 26⬩9 PM⬩Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St, Cambridge⬩Free

What’s the #1 quality you’re looking for in a friend? According to half of this week’s Friendship & Community Discussion group attendees, the answer is thoughtfulness.

I found no shortage of it during the evening’s conversation. Topics included the definition of a close friend, whether strangers in Camberville live up to New England’s cold reputation, and why you should be the friend you want to see in the world.

I’ve enjoyed connecting with more of you in person over the last few weeks. It’s fun to see the new friendships form as newsletter readers and event attendees continue to gather together.

I’d love to see even more of this, so I’ve added two new events to the calendar:

✦ New to Camberville Events

Friendship & Community Discussion Group. Gather in small groups to discuss topics of friendship and community with people who value it the same way you do. Hosting this one at a new time and venue to welcome even more attendees and conversations.

Monday, November 30⬩7-9 PM⬩Aeronaut Brewery, 14 Tyler St, Somerville⬩Free

Winter 5K + Brunch. The Cambridge Classic race is my quarterly running tradition. Join me for a chilly Winter Classic 5K (all paces welcome!) followed by a warm conversation over brunch with friends in Central Square.

Sunday, December 6⬩9:15 AM-12 PM⬩64 Sidney St, Cambridge

I’ll start including this section for New to Camberville each week so you can stay on top of all the events I host during the upcoming fall and winter.

While I can’t do anything about the early sunsets, I do plan to fill the winter with delightful, cozy events and hope you’ll be part of it.

Talk to you next Thursday,

Aaron
